Macaoimh

Macaoimh are our equivalent of Cubs. Our cub system is loosely based on the ancient tribe of Irish warriors the Fianna who protected the High Kings. Before becoming one of these warriors a young boy had to spend several years preparing and training just as a Cub must prepare and train before he/she can become a Scout. The greatest leader of these warriors was Fionn Mac Cumhaill, hence the leader of some of our packs is called Fionn.

The pack is called a cath (tribe) and is divided into Clanns (families) Each Clann is led by a Rí (king) and has about six members. Our Macaoimh love to go camping and we usually go camping for a weekend twice a year. We usually camp where there is a hut or hostel which we can use if the weather gets bad, although we usually sleep in the big army tents belonging to the Scouts.
